Josef is just one of those kids who excels at anything he puts his mind to. He is a straight-A student in Elementary School where his favorite subjects are math and spelling. Josef is always eager to assist another Club member or staff person with any problem they may have.
Josef enjoys bike racing with his brothers, playing a variety of different sports (mainly basketball) and attending church with his family.
The death of his infant sister in early 2008 from SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) left Ryland and his family in despair. The Club staff was worried about Ryland. When an opportunity to nominate him for a camp scholarship arose, the staff knew Ryland would benefit the most. Ryland blossomed at Camp Kooch-I-Ching where he had numerous once-in-a-lifetime experiences and learned to believe in himself.
Ryland, a member since 2004 and all-around "Game-Room Master," is a happy, energetic young man again, and he is looking forward to the future. "The Club has taught me how to help other people. Every day I thank God for the Boys & Girls Club."
Shelby has been a Club member since she was eight years old. Not only is Shelby an accomplished artist of several mediums, she also plays the cello with her High School's Chamber Orchestra and writes for the Torch Club newsletter. Shelby is an active club member and serves as the Treasurer of the Keystone Club.
Shelby credits the Boys & Girls Clubs with helping her to keep a positive attitude.
