A Summer of Service

August 10, 2012 by admin Leave a Comment

8 weeks. 40 days. 280 hours. 16800 minutes. 1008000 seconds. The equivalence of a summer spent serving the community at the local Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas. This year five outstanding student leaders were selected from the Las Vegas community to participate in the Bank of America Student Leaders Program. This program consists of an eight week paid internship at a local nonprofit, an all expenses paid trip to Washington D.C. for a leadership summit, and a lesson on financial management.

We are your Bank of America Student Leaders: Jazlyn, Kendrick, Ashley, Chorkin, and Stephen! We have had an amazing time this summer serving the clubs and seeing all aspects of this wonderful organization. First off, Jazlyn just graduated from Sierra Vista High School and is attending Stanford University next fall. She has had a wonderful summer serving the Lied Memorial Clubhouse. Kendrick, also employed at Lied, is a recent graduate of Arbor View High School and plans to attend Yale University in the fall. Ashley graduated from Green Valley High School and is attending Indiana University – Bloomington and studying Entrepreneurship and Nonprofit Management. Ashley is the owner of her own nonprofit organization, called C.H.A.N.C.E that helps provide information and sustain existing nonprofits. She has been enjoying her time at the Reynolds Clubhouse. Chorkin is a rising senior at Rancho High School and participates in the magnet program for medical studies. She has spent her summer working at the James Clubhouse in North Las Vegas. Last but not least, Stephen is a recent graduate from The Meadows School and will be attending Cornell University for Chemistry in the fall. Stephen has been working with Jazlyn and Kendrick at the Lied Memorial Clubhouse.

Now, here’s our rap about our time at the clubs. Holla!

We would like to thank everyone from the Boys and Girls Clubs and Bank of America for an incredibly summer! To Steve, Dulcinea, Kelley, Jason, Raul, Debbie, Kathy, Sue, Gabe, Raphael, Fiztslona, thank you so much for making our time here incredibly special!
